Everton.

You have to feel for Everton. Years of top flight residence yet constantly floating around in no mans land. Fans would be forgiven for thinking last season would be different as the toffees approached their opening game with arguably their best squad in their Premier League history. Yet an 11th place finish was all they could muster and Roberto Martinez was shown the exit door. Enter Ronald Koeman. The Dutch tactician has been handed the task of bringing back the glory days to Goodison Park. His biggest task will be to avoid losing Romelu Lukaku before the transfer window closes. Lukaku is a world class striker and pivotal for Everton. Koeman will be hoping he can keep him happy and that he’ll have his shooting clogs on this year. Obviously keeping hold of players hasn’t been completely successful. Losing John Stones was a blow as he will be a top class defender in years to come. Koeman has signed a solid replacement in Ashley Williams though, as well as adding Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa in midfield. With the league as competitive as it is, expectations cannot be too high and Everton fans should just be happy with a top half finish and some decent football. They’ve got quite accustomed to that over the years.

Key man: Romelu Lukaku

Best signing: Ashley Williams

Verdict: 9th
