Hypebeast, Complex, The Daily Street, GQ. The internet is loaded with sites that are dedicated to bringing you everything you need to know about menswear. The latest releases, current trends, where to shop, what to buy and how to buy. So why do we need another one you ask? That was my question too!
In a world where every 14 year old and their dog are attempting to launch their own streetwear brands with unimaginative designs screen printed onto Fruit of the Loom or Gildan Tees, I don’t want to simply explore WHAT your average brand that’s here today and gone tomorrow are producing, but what is it that has caused brands such as Nike, Adidas & Carhartt (to name a few) to survive?
My belief is that, brands that understand WHO they are (their identity & beliefs) and WHY they exist (their purpose & mission statement), not only survive and make great menswear but they also make a difference in this world.
Take Nike Co-Founder, Bill Bowerman for example, he has a belief that “If you have a body, you are an athlete”, this is part of the identity, the WHO of Nike. From that they have a mission statement, a WHY, which is “To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.” WHAT Nike has recently developed is the Nike FLYEASE, a shoe that has easy entry for those with physical limitations. WHAT Nike has created is a result of WHO they are, a brand that believe “If you have a body, you are an athlete”, regardless of your physical ability, Nike are committed to inspiring you as an athlete.
It is because of the way that Nike operates, that they shine so bright for me. They don’t just make sportswear, they make a difference. My aim here at The Gents Space is to turn the brightness up on the brands shining a light in this world and to help you be a part of their glow. I’d love you to join me on this journey of discovering what it is that cause brands to make a difference in this world.
